SUSPECT SOUGHT IN LEE’S SUMMIT GROCERY STORE ROBBERY
Lee’s Summit, Mo. – The police department is seeking information to identify a suspect from an early morning grocery store armed robbery. The incident at the Hen House Grocery Store, 1015 N.E. Rice Road, occurred Saturday morning June 6 at 4:50 am before the store opened. As a manager was entering the business the suspect approached the manager from behind and forced him inside the store at gunpoint. After having the manger put the store cash in a brown paper sack the suspect fled on foot from the business.
The suspect was described as a black male with a fair or light complexion, less than 6’ tall and roughly 190 lbs. At the time of the robbery he was wearing dark clothing, a red bandana and a black Nike ball cap with a white swoosh on the front and NIKE on the left side of the cap. It is this hat which may connect the suspect to an earlier incident from May 28 at 11:00 pm.
On May 28 management was called back to the store after closing by a cleaning crew who found a customer locked inside under suspicious circumstances. The customer, a light skinned black male wearing the same or similar Nike ball cap, reportedly had entered the store just before closing but was unseen by management and did not announce himself as the store shut down. After management arrived they asked the customer to wait while they got his information but the subject walked away from the business and was not identified.
It is the similarities of the subjects build, complexion and the same ball cap from both incidents which leads detectives to believe it may be the same person both times. Detectives are asking that if anyone has information about the armed robbery on June 6 or can identify the subject in the photograph from May 28 to please contact the LSPD at 816-969-1720.
