The City of Lee’s Summit Digs Out From The Winter Storm
February 21, 2013 3:59 p.m.
Assistant Chief Jim Eden Lee’s Summit Fire Department
Melissa Fears Public Communications Coordinator
As the heavy snowfall moves off the east, the National Weather Service is still expecting one to three additional inches of snow on top of the ten to fourteen inches of snow that we already have. In addition to the snow, light freezing drizzle is expected, causing some glazing.
City snow removal crews will continue to plow and treat collector and arterial roads and transition to the residential areas and curb to curb clearing once the snow has stopped.
In an effort to plow and treat the primary roads, the police department will begin towing illegally parked and abandoned vehicles that are blocking the primary roads later this evening. The police department will attempt to contact the vehicle’s owner to have it removed prior to having it towed. If you have questions about your vehicle, call the Lee’s Summit Police Department at (816) 969-7391.
Residents are asked to stay indoors unless it is absolutely necessary and to help with the snow removal process by doing the following:
• Remove vehicles from streets to prevent a delay and to improve the snow removal process • Shovel snow to the side of your driveway to lessen the amount of snow left at the entrance of your driveway. • Remove snow from around fire hydrants near your property
The City will continue to monitor the weather and adjust snow removal operations as needed. You may call the Snow Desk at (816) 969-1870. Normal business hours are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. During winter storm events, the Snow Desk operates 24 hours a day.
