The Rotary Club Of Lee’s Summit Honors Top High School Students

April 26, 2014

By Kirby Asplund

The Rotary Club of Lee’s Summit honored thirty of the city’s top graduating high school seniors at its April 17 meeting. Ten young men and women each from Lee’s Summit High School, Lee’s Summit North, and Lee’s Summit West, attended the meeting, held at Unity Village. The students were accompanied by their respective principals.

In his introduction to the students from Lee’s Summit North, principal Dr. Jeff Meisenheimer gave an indication as to how exclusive is this group: "The minimum GPA to be a member of this group is 4.32," he said, "topping out at 4.62." Lee’s Summit High School principal Dr. John Faulkenberry reminisced about seeing the students arrive at the school as freshmen, and making the choice to excel by meeting the demands placed upon them.

Each in turn, the students introduced themselves, providing a brief sketch of their high school activities, their college choices and their future plans.

Club president Mike Allen congratulated the seniors, encouraging their eventual return to Lee’s Summit, to live and work in the community.

The Rotary Club of Lee’s Summit is a service organization made up of business, civic and community leaders. Its 175 members gather at Unity Village Thursdays at noon. The Club supports local, regional, national and international efforts such as the eradication of polio, disaster relief, education, clean water, and more. It is part of the 1.2-million member Rotary International. The Rotary motto is Service Above Self.
