The Super Stringer Uses Lee’s Summit Technical, Manufacturing and Creative Resources
Nov. 13, 2010
By Mary Pechar
What did you do at the annual Christmas Party last year?
If you were Curt Newsom and Kelly Yarborough, you laid the foundation for a new invention and a blossoming business. Both are business owners who experienced the effects of the economic downturn. As they caught up at a Christmas party, Kelly mentioned a friend who had developed a new product and was in the process of marketing it. If they could come up with an idea, he could help them get started. That was music to Curt’s ears as he already had the product idea.
The Super Stringer which is a hoop shaped plastic instrument used to quickly restring your hoodie, sweatpants, etc., basically anything with a string or cord to synch or close the garment or object.
The two, along with third partner, Dave Feyerabend went to work. And every step of the way they used local Lee’s Summit resources. The initial tooling and prototype was done by R&D Tooling and Summit Lithographics worked with them on the logo and packaging. Progress Instruments created the samples and has been instrumental in manufacturing and packaging. The HyVee on Ward Road became the test market. And more recently, the downtown video production company, Cinematic Visions produced the infomercial.
Less than a year later, the Super Stringer is on the verge of being available at a national big box chain, the infomercial will begin to air soon and they aren’t done yet. The trio is busily working on a variety of companion products to further enhance the Super Stringer’s appeal.
The Super Stringer would make a great holiday gift and is still available at HyVee, Ward Road. You may order online at www.thesuperstringer.com or by calling 1.866.885.7805.
