Donna Vaughan, co-owner of Waldo Pizza, invited the media to an impromptu press conference at her restaurant on Thursday afternoon.  She and partner Susan Sims wanted to have the opportunity to express how they felt about employee Kelly Hill, who  perished in a fire at her home on September 2nd.  Although, KMBC-TV9, KCTV-5 and KSHB-41 attended the session, the Tribune had the only newspaper there.

Vaughan and Sims often got teary-eyed during the conference.  Vaughan said, “Working with Kelly was one of the most delightful experiences of my life.  She was a born leader.  Within 20 minutes of being at work, she had everyone laughing.  She knew how to rally the troops, and she was great with kids.”  Hill had been employed at Waldo Pizza since its opening six years ago.

Debbie Van Pelt is seated to the left of  photojournalists from Channels 5, 9 and 41.  At her right is KMBC’s Maria Antonia.
