The purpose of the Education Summit is to update stakeholders on the progress of the education goals outlined in the citizen-led strategic plan, Lee’s Summit 360°: Charting Tomorrow.

These goals are specifically located in the Education key performance area (KPA) of LS360° and are focused on the following areas:
•    the pursuit of lifelong learning and the employment needs of the community,
•    a comprehensive and coordinated approach to the dissemination of education-related information throughout the community
•    attention to diversity, promotion of benefits, and understanding of education-related issues, and
•    an ongoing quest of funding to address needs.

Metropolitan Community College –Longview President Dr. Fred Grogan; University of Central Missouri (UCM) Summit Center Director Dr. Carolyn McKnight, and Lee’s Summit R-7 School District Assistant Superintendant Stan Elliott will be the keynote speakers. The current state of the educational system and its impact on our community will be a focus of their presentations.

How the City is working together to address the current state of the educational system will be the focus of the following presenters at the Education Summit:
•    Education Funding Committee presented by the Chairman of the Education Subcommittee Mike Allen
•    Joint Lifelong Learning & Employment Skills Training Committee presented by Ms. Mary Ann Rhoads
•    Diversity presented by Dr. Emmanuel Ngomsi

A brainstorming session during the Education Summit will provide an opportunity to discuss ideas for next year’s meeting. Vicky Cundiff, the co-chairperson of  LS360° will lead the discussion. Chairperson of the LS360° Education KPA Bob White will host a Q&A session at the end of the summit.
