As the chilly afternoon rolls in on Saturday, January 12th, over 100 people will brave the cold for the third annual Freezin’ for a Reason Ride to benefit Special Olympics.

Three years ago, “super plunger” Captain Brian Wilson of the Lee’s Summit Police Department, sat down with some of his fellow officers to brainstorm a new way to raise money for Special Olympics. A comment was made that they could not have a motorcycle ride. Wilson responded with, “Well, why can’t I?”

Not long after, a logo was drawn up and the Freezin’ for a Reason Ride was created.

FFRR brings together different groups of people with big hearts and a common goal.  Motorcycles, Jeeps, convertibles, and cars with windows rolled down will meet at Gail’s Harley-Davidson for registration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This is where participants will claim their shirts and enjoy a small buffet courtesy of Gail’s.

A $24 donation is required to register. Donations can be made at http://somo.kintera.org/superplungekc/bigheadwilson or in cash the day of the event. To guarantee yourself a shirt that fits, contact Brian Wilson with a comment on the donation page or through his e-mail: bigheadwilson@comcast.net.

At 1:30 sharp, riders will be escorted by the Lee’s Summit Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Patrol to Longview Beach for a photo op.

From there, riders will be escorted to StueyMcBrews at 321 SE Main St for a chili buffet and auction.
Everyone is invited to the auction and after party at StueyMcBrews, regardless of participation in the ride.

A professional auctioneer will auction off items such as:  fire rings, a tattoo session, autographed sports memorabilia, and so much more.

Auction items and more information can be found by www.bigheadwilson.com.
