Tour of Kansas City is marking 50 years with a three-day cycling festival celebrating health and wellness in Kansas City while promoting the culture of cycling with opportunities for every level of bicycle enthusiast from the novice to the fastest professional cyclists. Spectators and participants will enjoy a weekend of fun June 21 – 23 at the races, pleasure rides, family activities and Kansas City’s first and only Real Ale Fest. The Tour of Kansas City kicks off at the Kansas City Museum on Friday and continues in Lee’s Summit throughout the weekend.
As the region’s premier bike racing series, Tour of Kansas City will host three days of criterium racing staged at three different venues. The fastest professional cyclists from across the country will ignite the streets and compete in 28+ racing categories on courses at the Kansas City Museum, Longview Farm and Downtown Lee’s Summit. Close to 10,000 spectators are expected to attend.
The novice to experienced cyclists can enjoy two fully supported Pleasure Rides on the scenic roads of Jackson and Cass Counties. The Rock Island Ramble will highlight the Rock Island corridor, the forthcoming Rock Island State Park, and the Rock Island connection between Kansas City and the Katy Trail on Saturday, June 22. The Rotary Ride: Pedaling Against Polio will travel the streets of Lee’s Summit, Blue Springs and Kansas City on Sunday, June 23.
Kansas City’s first Real Ale Fest kicks off at noon on Saturday with an opportunity to taste and talk to brewers. VIP tickets are $25 and include two hours of cask ale tasting from a variety of brewers from around the country. VIP’s will receive a commemorative KC Real Ale tasting glass. At 2pm general admission ticket holders will sample the remaining cask beer and dozens of bottled conditioned ales. General admission tickets are $15 and the first 250 through the gate will receive a commemorative tasting glass.
The community and participants will want to attend the outdoor activities with a street party on Saturday from 4pm – 10 pm in New Longview. Enjoy food from local street vendors, a beer garden and live music. Sunday’s street party will be held in Downtown Lee’s Summit from 11am – 6pm with music, food and drink. Attendees will have a front row seat to the Tour of Kansas City race. Events for children will include the State Farm Bike Rodeo and bike safety lessons in Downtown Lee’s Summit on Sunday.
Participating partners in the Tour of Kansas City include the Missouri Bicycling and Pedestrian Federation, BikeWalk KC, Kansas City Museum, KC Metro Bike Club, Mid America Regional Council, Jackson County Parks and Recreation, the Rotary Clubs of Lee’s Summit, Blue Springs and Raytown, and all of the cities and towns in which the race events will be staged along the bike routes.
Primary beneficiaries of the 50th Annual Tour of Kansas City are Gift of Life, Missouri Bicycle and Pedestrian Federation, Rotary and the New Longview Foundation.

Lee’s Summit Street Closures
The third race of the Tour of Kansas City Bike Race is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Sunday, June 23, in Downtown Lee’s Summit. Several street closures are expected between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. that day for the course and other activities associated with the race.
Street closures for the Tour of Kansas City Bike Race include:
• Third Street between S.E. Main and Johnson streets
• Johnson Street between Third and Grand streets
• A portion of Grand Street between Third and Fourth streets
• Fourth Street between Grand and S.E. Main streets
• S.E. Main Street from approximately Salon Allure to Fourth Street
• Douglas Street from approximately Heart of America Dance Centre to Fourth Street
• Green Street from Third to Fourth streets
