Turk will challenge Cleaver again next year
Dec. 16, 2011
Republican Jacob Turk will again challenge incumbent Emanuel Cleaver in Missouri’s 5th District in November.
It will be his fourth bid to unseat the Democrat. In 2010, Turk came within single digits of defeating Cleaver – 53 to 44 percent – the closet of any Republican in the district since 1946. Turk will run in the 5th even though district lines have been redrawn and placed his home outside the district. In a release, Turk called the new district lines “blatantly gerrymandered.”
Turk told a crowd of supporters at Union Station Monday he is running to revive the economy, improve fiscal accountability and restore integrity to Washington, D.C.
“Has our economic outlook improved over the past year? Have we revived the job market? Has our national debt declined? Unfortunately, the answer to all three questions is ‘No,’” Turk said. “Our nation is at a very serious crossroads. We need a Congressman who will focus on the important issues confronting this district and the nation and who will get results. That’s why today I am announcing my candidacy for Congress.”
Turk is a Marine veteran, 34-year resident of the Kansas City area and a former small business owner.
“I am running for Congress because I believe that the people of Missouri’s 5th District deserve leadership they can trust to improve the economy, demand fiscal accountability and restore integrity to Washington. It is time to end politics as usual and get something done. The hard working people of the greater Kansas City area need to be represented by someone who will fight for a balanced budget, regulatory relief for small businesses, and tax code reform,” said Turk. “People wake up each day and work to earn a decent living to provide for their families. Their children and grandchildren are in debt before they could even reach adulthood as a result of out-of-control spending by Washington. As a father, husband and veteran I think enough is enough – if America wants to change the direction of our country, Americans must change the kind of person they elect to Congress.”
As a former small business owner, Turk said he will be able to provide the necessary leadership on regulatory and tax reform so desperately needed within the small business community that creates the majority of new jobs in Missouri’s 5th District.
Turk said he is greatly disturbed by the insider trading in DC. He strongly believes that Congressional members must put their finances into a blind trust.
“We send people to Washington to represent us to the best of their abilities, not to fatten their bank accounts,” added Turk.
Turk supports the balance budget amendment and plans to announce a series of spending reforms as the campaign progresses.
Turk has also said he will fight to repeal the Affordable Care Act, referred to by many Republicans as “Obamacare.”

If that were not enough, Jacob will be a servant leader who will not go to Washington with "good intentions" and get caught up in the "politics of compromise."
