Two Armed Robberies in Lee’s Summit

The Lee’s Summit Police Department is currently investigating two armed robberies that occurred this weekend. The Police Department is also seeking help from the public in identifying the suspect in the surveillance footage.
The first robbery occurred on Friday evening, 2/11/2011 at around 6:00 pm. The business was a cell phone retailer in the 3600 Block of NE Akin Drive. According to witnesses, the suspect entered the store and displayed a handgun and demanded money before fleeing.
The second robbery occurred on Saturday, 2/12/2011 at around 12:45 pm. The business was a payday loan business located in the 900 block of NE Rice Road. Witnesses stated that the suspect entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded money. Two surveillance images of the suspect were captured during the second robbery.
In both robberies, the suspect was described as a black male, 5 feet 6 inches tall, approximately 165 pounds and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black or dark blue jeans. The suspect was described as having a thin build and possibly in his twenties. At this time, it is unsure if the same suspect is responsible for both robberies.
There were no injuries reported and no shots fired in either incident. The Lee’s Summit Police Department is seeking assistance from the public in identifying the suspect in the attached photographs.
