Ultralight plane crash in eastern Jackson County

On 10-01-2013 at approximately 6 p.m. Jackson County Sheriff deputies responded to the area of the 13300 block of Ragsdale Road in regard to a reported plane crash.
The location is in unincorporated Jackson County north of US-50 Highway near Lone Jack, Missouri.
Upon the arrival of the deputies, Lone Jack Fire and EMS was on scene and had advised the pilot of the aircraft was dead.
He was identified as 56-year-old Richard Scalet of Greenwood, Missouri.
Investigation has revealed Scalet was operating a Kolb FireStar Ultra Light and was seen taking off when the Ultra Light took a sharp turn and crashed into a grassy field west of the runway. The pilot was alone, and no one else was injured in the crash.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Lone Jack, MO Police Department, and the FAA which continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
