Update fatal hit and run accident in Lee's Summit

Update fatal hit and run accident in Lee's Summit

Fatal accident along U.S. 50, Lee's Summit

On 11/18/2011 at approximately 7:00 a.m. officers with the Lee’s Summit Police Department were called to the area of U. S. 50 near the O'brien Road overpass on the report of a body alongside the roadway.  Officers responding to the scene located the deceased in a grassy area on the north side of the westbound lanes of U.S. 50.

Initial investigation indicates that the victim was struck by a vehicle in the westbound lanes of U.S. 50 sometime during the overnight hours.  The victim is a local man in his twenties.

The investigation into the accident is on-going.  The victim’s name has not been released yet pending the notification of family.

The victim has been identified as 21 year old Cody Bowman of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. 
The driver in the accident has been identified and is assisting the Police Department with the on-going investigation.
