September 6, 2013
By Sgt. Chris Depue Lee's Summit Police Department
Lee’s Summit, MO – On Thursday, 9/5/2013 at approximately 8:05 p.m. emergency crews responded to the eastbound lanes of 50 Highway near the west junction of 291 Highway on a report that a pedestrian had been struck in the roadway.
Upon arrival officers located the victim who was pronounced dead at the scene. The initial investigation indicates that the victim was attempting to cross the eastbound lanes of the highway from north to south when he was struck by at least one vehicle travelling east.
The vehicle(s) that struck the victim did not stop and continued eastbound on 50 Highway.
The victim was identified as 34 year old Edward Moody of Lee’s Summit.
At this time Police are searching for a four door vehicle that was described by witnesses as “boxy”. An examination of debris left at the scene indicates that the suspect vehicle is an Oldsmobile Cutlass, Oldsmobile Achieva or Chevrolet Malibu. Damage should be on the left side, front end damage
Police are asking anyone with information to call the LSPD TIPS Hotline at 816-969-1752.
Why was the man crossing the highway at night? Was he drunk? Everyone is focusing on the car that didn't stop (I get that), but the person should not have been crossing the highway . . .I'd like to know what the tox results are on Mr. Moody. . .

People who cross the highway are not always ON something.. Many people do not have any other means of transportation. Its always nice seeing how others always think its either drugs or alcohol. Pretty classy..

For whatever reason he was crossing the highway, there is a 4-year-old little boy who now will grow up without a dad. Sending prayers for Eddison as he faces the life without his father.
