On Thursday, February 09, 2012, at 1:35 p.m., the Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1308 NE Depot Drive. The occupant of the house called to report a car was on fire in the garage.

When the fire department arrived, heavy smoke was coming from the garage of a single family residence. The occupants of the house were outside.

Firefighters entered the garage to attack the fire in the vehicle while other crews searched the bedrooms above to ensure the fire had not spread from the garage. A search of the building confirmed no one was in the house. The fire was under control by 1:55 p.m.

Fire damage was contained to the garage and the vehicle of origin with only minor smoke damage to the remainder of the house and a second vehicle in the garage. The fire was caused by an undetermined mechanical failure in the engine compartment of a car being worked on by the occupant.
