Wanted: History Lovers to Participate in Walking Tour of Churches & Homes of Lee’s Summit
April 24, 2010
The Lee’s Summit Historic Preservation Commission and the Lee’s Summit Historical Society will present an event interpreting the history of downtown historic churches on May 1st at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 5th and Grand streets.
There will be a tour every 20 minutes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hear the stories of the churches brought to life by the Lee’s Summit North IB History and Debate students. Did you ever wonder how your church got started? Find out who were the early members of the congregation. What was Lee’s Summit like in those early days? Do you know where the Cumberland Presbyterian Church was located? The answers to these questions and more will be revealed on the tour.
Bring your family to this historic event and become a part of Lee’s Summit history yourself. There will also be a short walking tour of three houses in the same neighborhood – the Cooper House on SE Grand, the Bell house and the Graves house, both located on the corner of 5th and Grand streets. All of these historic homes are located east of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
Admission for the tour is $5 for adults and $3 for children.
