Water Causes Damage to the City of Lee's Summit Computer System

February 22, 2011

The City of Lee’s Summit’s computer networked systems and servers were significantly damaged by water on February 21 due to a set of failures experienced by the air conditioning system supporting the City Hall data center.

Public Safety systems are operational and “911” services were not impacted.

The City has recently been undergoing a substantial effort to upgrade the network and software systems. Due to these upgrades, the City’s ability to restore data from backup has been somewhat impeded. Fortunately, because of a redundant storage system no information was lost. The operational system will be fully recovered late Thursday, Feb. 24, at the earliest.

The City’s Web and telephone interface programs are not functioning at this time. Therefore, the City cannot send or receive e-mails and customers cannot pay most bills online.

Residents can contact a department by using the telephone numbers listed below and pay water/sewer bills at City Hall, 220 SE Green St., Lee’s Summit, Mo., via the payment drop box located between City hall and the Fire Department, or by mail.

Municipal Court payments by phone and Web are now available.

The City is taking additional measures to further protect the computer system operating environment.
