After enjoying their visit to the East Coast and playing a team outside of its division the Kansas City Chiefs now head to the West Coast to play a division rival the Oakland Raiders. Lots of changes has occurred since the two teams’ first meeting but I am one to believe the outcome will remain the same.
The Chiefs came away with a win at home earlier this season over the Raiders thanks in large part to their defense. The Chiefs D came up with 9 sacks on Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor and intercepted him 3 times.
Now the Raiders are going with a Matt McGloin as there starting QB and the team has responded to him. The Raiders offense put up 27 points in a loss last week at New York Jets. Despite the improved play on the offensive end the Raiders are still losing games and currently reside in last place at 4-9 in the AFC West division. Kansas City after the win against Oakland has lost three straight division games. To counter this Chiefs coach Andy Reid has preached to his team "Division" this week in practice. Rather than play on the term "Raider week" Coach Reid has made this game about winning a division game on the road.
I believe the Chiefs will do just that after seeing the team rebound in a resounding way on the road last week. The Chiefs played in 32 degree weather with intermittent snow showers compared to this week’s game day forecast calling for sunny and 64 at kickoff. Since the Chiefs haven’t faced this new unknown QB the Raiders now use, I feel the team may trail at the start or just not get off to such a hot start as they did in Washington.
Eventually the Chiefs better players, deeper roster and a more veteran coaching staff will show on the field as the team earns their 11th win of the 2013 season. I look forward to hearing Coach Reid talk about a road division win on Sunday. Better than that all Chiefs fans look forward to hearing about the Chiefs earning a berth in the AFC Playoffs which this win will accomplish.
That’s what I "REID" Into it this week.
