Day 2 of the 2013 MIAA basketball tournament featured the women and three of the four games went as seeded. The day started off with Top Seed Washburn beating Northwest Missouri State 52-39.
Washburn didn't score until after the first media timeout, but it didn't matter as their defense took over for the 13 point win.
Up next for Washburn is their nearby rival Emporia State who beat Truman State 61-56. The Hornets led the entire game with only 1 tie as they controlled the pace to secure the win. In the night session 2nd seeded Central Missouri withstood a frantic last minute effort by Missouri Western to escape with a 54-53 victory. The Jennies finished with three players in double figures as part of a balanced effort. 6th seeded Fort Hays State Tigers.
Roared out of the gate to surprise Northeastern State the 3rd seed 61-42. The Tigers led at the half 34-20 and continued to expand their lead throughout the second half.
Semifinal Saturday starts at Noon with a pair of men's games, Fort Hays State vs Northwest Missouri State, then Central Missouri meets Central Oklahoma. The night session features the women's games starting at 6 p.m. with Washburn against Emporia State and then Fort Hays State plays Central Missouri.
