Northwest Missouri State topped #1 Men's seed Fort Hays State 73-66 to start semi-final Saturday in the 2013 MIAA Basketball tournament. Northwest Missouri limited Ft. Hays to just one field goal in the game's final 12 minutes.
The 5th seeded Bearcats will now play in the MIAA Championship game sunday against 2nd seed Central Missouri. The UCM Mules earned their way into the title game with a 92-73 win over Central Oklahoma. The Mules jumped out to as much as a 44-23 lead in the first half, but the Bronchos would later erase that to just four.
Four Mules finished in double figures including Lee's Summit's Matt Webb who had a double-double. Webb scored 10 points and dragged down rebounds.

On the women's side Emporia State got off to a quick start, at one time leading 15-2, then held off several Washburn comebacks to win 61-54. Top Seed Washburn star guard Laura Kinderknecht passed 1,000 career points in the loss. The Hornets will now play in the MIAA Championship game Sunday against 2nd seed Central Missouri after the Jennies outlasted Fort Hays state 87 to 78.. The Jennies led at the half 44-41, then owned the OT session that started tied at 75.
