FanFest the centerpiece of KC All-Star festivities.
July 7, 2012
By Fred Liggett
Thousands of visitors to Kansas City poured through the doors of Bartle Hall in Downtown Kansas City this morning to enjoy the first full day of FanFest. Once inside baseball fans of all ages were able to enjoy the many exhibits, take pictures with a 100 foot baseball and get autographs from MLB legends and KC Royals alumni. Many KC area residents already know this is an event that puts the metro area onto a national stage. A true example was found in an autograph line where an Orange, California resident was in front of a Miami, Florida native next to a Platte County, Missouri resident. Some of the MLB legends offering up free autographs to FanFest visitors were Andre Dawson, Lou Brock, Ferguson Jenkins, Rollie Fingers and yes event BO Jackson. The lines were long as some folks waited as long as 4 hours just for an autograph from Royals alumni Bo Jackson. Other Royals alumni signing were Amos Otis, Dennis Leonard, Frank White and John Mayberry. The fun at FanFest continues at 9am Sunday morning and lasts until 8pm. Other well-known events taking place on Sunday is the 5K Fun Run and annual Futures game at Kaufman Stadium. A Fireworks show will cap the days events.
