Hannah Rosson receives tips from Lee's Summit West Women's Lacrosse Club Assistant, Casie Scott
I wish to clarify some information from my article titled, “Lee’s Summit R-7’s Newest Sport is America’s Oldest Sport,” that was published in our print and online editions on April 2.
The Lee’s Summit R-7 School District is not allocating or providing any funds toward the sport of lacrosse at any district school.
Men’s and Women’s lacrosse is a school affiliated club sport at each of the high schools. Like any club at the school they are required to have a faculty sponsor, which is often an unpaid position. The ladies and gentlemen coaching these teams are unpaid volunteers.
Any equipment used by the students is either paid for by the student’s family, or paid for by team fundraising. Each school lacrosse club is responsible for paying for the use of district facilities and paying for any district staff required with the use of those facilities.
Lee’s Summit West Men’s Coach Eric Koford has stated, “Lee’s Summit West has been able to fund the purchase of equipment and payment of fees through a grant from USA Lacrosse. The other schools have been able to provide equipment and fees through corporate sponsorship and fund raising.”
