Toward the end of Tuesday night’s game(12/21/10) the student section of Lee’s Summit West started chanting, “Let’s play football.”  If you looked at the scoreboard at the end of the game, you might think you were watching a football game, but it was not, it was basketball and this night, Lee’s Summit West was not the victor. Lee’s Summit North prevailed by a score of 36 to 34 over their cross town rivals.

Early in the game, Lee’s Summit North forced several turnovers to keep the lead, only to give it up to the Titans at the end of the half. They went into the locker room down 20-18. The teams stayed close with the Broncos taking the lead at the end of the third period, 30-29.

Only eleven points were scored during the fourth quarter. Top scorers for each team, Shaquille Harrison(LSW) and Anthony Eller(LSN) each had only 13 points.

Tory Miller(LSN) came to the free throw line with 3.1 seconds in the game and a one point lead. He sinks one to give the Broncos a two point lead. In those remaining 3.1 seconds, the Titans inbounded twice with two time outs, only to come up short.

The Christmas wish of the Titan’s student section was that they were playing football, but tonight, Coach Mike Hilbert and his Broncos got their Christmas wish and pulled off a victory.

In other area action, the Lee’s Summit Tigers were victorious over Blue Springs 82 to 79, in what also sounds like a close game. Not a good night for football powerhouses, but perhaps some new basketball powerhouses began to emerge.
