The Lee's Summit Tigers fell to Liberty 58-43 in their Courtwarming game Friday night. The Blue Jays jumped to a 19-4 lead at the end of the first period with Corbin Berkstresser being their only scorer to that point. At the half, they were still behind 25-12. Coach Miller lit a fire at half and they came out and were able to pull within 5 in the third period. After that Liberty pulled ahead and never looked back.
This writer being a "glass half full" type saw some bright spots in the evening.
With the lead seeming insurmountable, Coach Miller was able to share playing time among some other players. Senior Davis McElroy came off the bench to score 4 points late in the game. Senior Tim Good was also able to see some court time.
McElroy backed up Berkstresser at quarterback during the football season. He has plans to play football at a junior college in either Kansas or Minnesota, or even to walk on at the University of Arkansas.
Good plans to attend University of Central Missouri where he would like to stay involved in basketball whether as a member of the pep band, or possibly even trying out for the Mules. "I enjoy the fun of working for the team," Good commented. He also predicted a KU win Saturday over K State, "80-69." He got the winner correct, but shorted them a few points.
The student section was in full force offering encouragement to their Tigers, but showing good sportsmanship in defeat.
In other area action Friday night, Lee's Summit North defeated Blue Springs 69-59 and Lee's Summit West defeated North Kansas City 65-56.
