The Lee’s Summit West girls cross country team successfully defended its Missouri Class 4 Sectional 4 title for the 6th year in a row. The Lady Titans accumulated 39 points to outdistance St. Teresas Academy by 6 points. Other state qualifying teams were Kearney with 96 points in 3rd and Lee’s Summit North with 105 points in 4th. Junior Kennadee Williams was sectional champion in 18:53 followed by freshmen Kourtney West 4th place in 18:55. Other Titan medalists were Samantha Phillips 9th in 19:22, Kiersten West 11th in 19:32 and Elizabeth Nolke 18th in 19:44.
Coach Jesse Griffin said, “I thought our girls ran well today and overcame a stiff challenge from a solid effort by St. Teresas Academy. We will need to continue to work together as a team to have a chance to win next week in Jefferson City at the state championship. Kennadee Williams did a great job pushing to the finish line to win a very tough sectional race. Kourtney West and Kennadee ran stride for stride most of the way helping each other throughout the race. Our other girls kept each other in sight which pulled them to the finish. Next week we will need to be even closer to each other within the middle pack. I do feel things are coming together nicely and confident about our chances of winning next weekend at state.”
