Lee's Summit West Students Honored as Champions of Character

Two Lee's Summit West student athletes were recently honored as NAIA "Champions of Character". They were nominated by their coaches from LSW for consistently displaying the 5 core values the NAIA recognizes as essential to being a well-rounded individual: Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship and Servant Leadership. Katie and Alec were recognized at half time of the semi-final game of the NAIA Division I Final Four Tournament in Kansas City on Monday, March 21.
Alec was an All State Swimmer that set several records at Lee’s Summit West during his four years as a varsity swimmer/state qualifier each year.
He also takes a challenging course load and is active in his church and community. He serves on several youth committees to better his community.
Katie is a multi-sport athlete with varsity letters in Basketball, Track and Volleyball. She has participated in basketball for four years, and track and volleyball for three. She placed 2nd in conference in the discus during the 10-11 track season and participated with the team from LS West in the Inaugural Nike Track National Meet in Eugene, Oregon; July, 2010, where she placed 8th in the discus.
Katie also takes advanced classes at West and is ranked 78th out of 420 seniors. She carries a 3.93 GPA. She is active in her church community at Our Lady of the Presentation.
