“We had a good start to our season. We did not win the meet. Park Hill
was a big challenge to take on as an opening meet since they are one
of the top teams in the metro area. We did come away with 5 state cuts
and some strong time improvements from last year.

The meet was a good way to start the year to allow our girls to set
season goals and know what it will take to be able to compete at the
top levels in the metro area and or the state. We were also able to
see one of the things we have been talking about since the start of
the season...that a key focus for our team is going to need to be to
develop girls that can sprint for 50 and 100 freestyle. We are well
rounded in our strokes and distance events but we lack girls that
specialize at the state level in sprints. Since Park Hill South has
several girls that compete at the state level in those events our
girls were able to see the difference this makes in an overall team
performance in a high school meet (with relays and individuals being
50's and 100 free).
Our state cuts were...the medley relay of sophmore Lyndsey Sherrow,
junior Jean Madison, sophmore Alyson Raymond, senior Libby Pike...
.....................Jean Madison also qualified in 200 Individual
Medley and the 100 breastroke
.....................Alyson Raymond also qualified in the 100 fly
.................... Lyndsey Sherrow also qualified in the 100 backstroke

I was particularly surprised to see Lyndsey qualify in the backstroke
since she does not swim year round and has just gotten back into the
pool here in the last few weeks and is just getting back into shape.
She should have a great end of the season this year!
Jean Madison also is going to Junior Nationals this weekend....so she
has a big weekend ahead and was swimming for a feeling of strength and
power....”  LSW Head Swim Coach Colleen Gibler
