Massive Turnout for Campell Cross Country Team
September 15, 2012

The Campell Mustangs Cross Country Team strives to give everything. This year is no exception.
Each year as try outs begin, the coaches at Bernard Campell Middle School have come to expect anywhere from 80-100 eager, young athletes. This year the turnout was over 130 students.
“We have traditionally had a great turn out for cross country because of our strong tradition of winning,” Cross Country coach Ron Zimmerman said.
Zimmerman claims that it was head coach Jeff Buckner’s passion that brought so many kids to the team.
“Jeff has really emphasized the need to look at what you did in the prior meet, or even just the day before, and do better,” Zimmerman said.
The cross country team consists of an A Team and a B Team. The A Team consists of eight girls and eight boys. Members are moved from team to team based on their performance at meets and practices.
To prepare for meets students run 2-2.5 miles, hill runs, 800 meter repeats, 200-400-800-800-400-200 meter ladders, and 1 mile time trials. Each meet is about 1–1.5 miles in distance.
“We have a slogan that say at the end of each practice and to start all our meets. "Some give A LITTLE, Some give A LOT, We give EVERYTHING!" We really just want the kids to give all they have each day,” Zimmerman said.
