Mavs elminated by Fort Wayne in Game Seven, 6-4

Missouri’s season ends in thrilling back-and-forth battle
FORT WAYNE, Indiana – The Missouri Mavericks were eliminated from the 2012 Central Hockey League Playoffs Thursday night in Game Seven of the Turner Conference Finals by the Fort Wayne Komets, who won the game 6-4. Ryan Jardine scored two goals on the night and Andrew Courtney and John-Scott Dickson turned in two point performances with a goal and an assist each. The Mavs will host a Season Celebration Party this Sunday from 3-6pm at Independence Events Center.
The Komets struck first with a power play goal from Frankie DeAngelis at the 4:27 mark of the first period. Ryan Jardine answered for the Mavericks six minutes later with a power play goal. John-Scott Dickson and Matt McCready assisted on the tying goal. The Mavs added another power play goal late in the period, as Andrew Courtney found a rebound in front of the net and put it to the twine, giving the Mavs a 2-1 lead with 53 seconds remaining in the first period. Missouri carried a 2-1 lead into the first intermission, while outshooting Fort Wayne 10-7 in the period.
Tom Mele tied the game 5:57 into the second period, breaking behind the Mavs defense and lifting a shot over Charlie Effinger’s left arm. The Mavericks regained the lead 50 seconds later with a two-on-one goal from Ryan Jardine. Andrew Courtney assisted on Jardine’s goal. The Komets brought the game even again at the 8:29 mark on another power play goal on a redirection from Jamie Lovell, evening the score at 3-3. Missouri and Fort Wayne combined for 34 shots in the period, with the Komets holding the edge, 19-15.
Fort Wayne took the lead just 35 seconds into the third period on another redirected power play goal, this one coming from Bobby Chaumont. John-Scott Dickson made it a one-goal game with just over five minutes remaining in regulation with a shot from the top of the right hand circle. Sebastien Thinel and Mahovsky assisted on the goal. The one-goal deficit was the closest the Mavs would get, as Auger netted an empty-net goal with 28 seconds left in regulation, clinching the game and seven-game series for Fort Wayne.
The Missouri Mavericks will host a Season Celebration Party this Sunday, April 29 from 3-6 p.m. at Independence Events Center. Mavericks’ players and coaches will be on hand to sign autographs and say goodbye to the fans before the team separates for the off-season. Fans can enter through the main (east) entrance of the building starting at 3 p.m.
