Meet a Maverick: Dave Pszenyczny

Dave Pszenyczny

By Fred Liggett
Special to The Tribune

Dave Pszenyczny, a left handed defenseman with a tough last name to pronounce makes things look easy while on the ice for the Missouri Mavericks. Now in his second season as a Maverick and 5th in the Central Hockey league Chezzy as he is called by his teammates has played in the playoffs four consecutive seasons. Dave has also spent time in the ECHL and AHL in his pro career now into its 8th year. The Sterling Heights, Michigan native lists Manchester United as his favorite team because it’s a different sport. Chezzy has two older brothers named Mike and Dan still cheering him on back home in Michigan.

Dave first put on a pair of skates at the age of 2 and quickly went for a spin at an area pond. Chezzy’s Favorite hockey memory occurred while playing for the Bossier City Mudbugs. That season ended with Dave and his teammates winning the Miron Cup claiming the CHL Championship. If not in Hockey today Chezzy feels he would be coaching or scouting hockey. His career goal always has been to get better every day. On those long bus rides in the CHL Dave likes to play sharples and watch movies. If a movie is ever made of his life Chezzy hopes Matt Damon of Bourne Identity fame gets the role. Once in the kitchen Dave has been known to make pretty good Crapes. Once his career is over he hopes to be remembered as a guy you would hate to play against but would love to have on your team. Chezzy is a fan of the Power and Light district in downtown Kansas City.

The soon to be 28-year old and his Mavericks teammates return home on Saturday, February 9 to host the Tulsa Oilers. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. at the Independence Events Center.
