Missouri Mavericks newcomer Kyle Atkins has been moving off the ice as fast as he does on it. Atkins, a left handed Defenseman, joined the Mavs 3 weeks ago after starting his 2012-13 season in the SPHL playing for the Pensacola Ice Flyers. At 6’3 and 204 pounds Atkins provides an imposing presence for the mavericks defense.
The 23 year old is in his first year of pro hockey after a stellar four year career at Holy Cross. “Atty” as he likes to be called by teammates is a big fan of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs. The Brockville, Ontario native says his whole family are all big Leafs fans. Still at home in Ontario is an older brother and his mom and dad.
His favorite hockey memory so far is playing for and making many friends at Holy Cross college. If not in hockey Kyle thinks he would go fishing.
So much fishing in fact he would make the attempt at becoming a pro fisherman. His career goal is to be successful in whatever career path he takes. On those long CHL bus rides Atkins enjoys listening to his ipod.
If a movie is ever made of his life He hopes Funny man Jim Carrey gets the lead role. Unlike several of his teammates Kyle admits he cooks a lot and if time permits loves to make a stir fry for a pre-game meal. Following his playing days Atkins hopes to be remembered as a smart and solid hockey player. Kyle attended the December 2nd Kansas City Chiefs game against Carolina with Mavs teammate Podge Turnbull.
After that experience Atkins admits he loves Arrowhead Stadium. Mavericks fans will want to check out this newcomer and the rest of the team as they host the Tulsa Oilers on December 31st.
The puck drops at the Independence Events Center at 7:05 p.m. After the game all fans are welcome to stay and skate around with their favorite Maverick player.
