An exciting new addition to the Mavericks hockey roster this season is a West coast native named Matt Robertson. The rookie forward is proud to be a fan of the NHL's San Jose Sharks. The right handed scoring machine hails from Rohnert, California where his parents and a younger sister root him on from home.
No matter how good on the ice he gets or popular with the Mavs fan base he will have to adapt when it comes to his nickname. Here in Missouri Matt goes by Robby but in college he was called "Robo". Once Matt arrived in Missouri he quickly learned that Robo was taken thanks to Popular Mavs goalie Josh Robinson.
Despite his American upbringing Robby first put on a pair of skates at the age of 2. Matt feels this is due to his mom hailing from Canada where the sport is king. Later Matt admits his Grandpa was largely responsible with this event in his life.
The 24 year old's favorite hockey memory so far was playing in 2 NCAA Elite 8 round games while at Ferris State. Mavericks head Coach John Scott-Dickson calls Robertson "Smart, has a good shot". While on the Mavs team bus he likes to sleep or enjoy a movie or two. Yes Robby does cook and when he does its a juicy steak.
Matt feels his Favorite sports movies is a number of "hockey documentaries'' Following his playing days Robertson hopes to be remembered as a hard worker and a reliable teammate. Robby's favorite part of the area is the Country Club Plaza where he admits quickly he enjoys visiting the popular shopping district.
Follow Matt and the rest of the Mavericks when they return home on Saturday Feb. 18 to host the Quad City Mallards. The Fun begins inside the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena when the puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
