Meet A Maverick: Hunter Smith #34

When Mavericks hockey fans watch this year's team, one player on the ice will stand above all the rest. That's because Mavericks newcomer Hunter Smith is 6 feet 7 inches tall to go along with weighing 231 pounds. The first-year Maverick spent the last two seasons playing in the AHL for the Stockton Heat. The 3rd year pro wishes to return to that level later this season.

Smitty, as he is called by his new teammates, hails from Windsor, Ontario. His parents, grandparents and a girlfriend reside there still, and all root him on from home. Smith says his favorite pro sports team is the Detroit Tigers because they are the nearest MLB team to his home in Ontario.

Meet a Maverick: Tyler Parsons #1

Ask any sports fan about players who wear jersey #1, and the response will be about an exciting player who scores a lot. This season, the Kansas City Mavericks are hoping the player wearing #1 will provide excitement to a game by preventing anyone from scoring.

A first year pro, goaltender Tyler Parsons is now in Kansas City to continue the franchise history with excellent goaltending. Parsons started the 2017-18 season in pre-season camp with both Calgary and Stockton before being sent to Kansas City. Parse, as his new teammates call him, is excited about being here and performing in front of sell-out crowds at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.

New Team Name, New Team Affiliations & A New Division - What Mavericks Fans Need to Know

Mavericks hockey fans are used to seeing changes when a new season begins, and the 2017-18 campaign will be no different.

Last year the Mavericks moved to the ECHL's Mountain Division and introduced a new head coach in John Scott-Dickson. This year the Mavericks began making changes on June 1, when they changed the team name from Missouri to Kansas City. Later in the off-season, the team announced new AHL & NHL affiliations. The Mavericks are now affiliated with the Stockton Heat of the AHL and Calgary Flames of the NHL.

More changes came when the ECHL league meetings convened, and one of the results was changes to the leagues divisions. The KC Mavericks will now compete in the Central Division against teams like Cincinnati, Indy and Quad City. The Mavericks nearest rivals, Wichita and Tulsa, were moved out of the Central division during the off-season.
