MAVERICKS CLINCH ECHL CENTRAL DIVISION TITLE

Missouri Defeats Allen Americans 6-3 on the Road

The Missouri Mavericks clinched the ECHL Central Division title on Wednesday evening with a big 6-3 victory over the reigning Kelly Cup Champion Allen Americans.  The Mavericks sit atop the league with an overall record of 47-8-3-2 and have already secured a berth in the 2016 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
 
Steven Summerhays had an impressive night between the pipes for Missouri, stopping 29 shots on goal through a full 60 minutes of play and earning his third win in a Mavericks sweater.  Andrew Courtney scored 2 goals for the Mavs in the win, and amateur forward, Darren Nowick, who was added to the Missouri roster just before the Wednesday night contest, scored his first professional goal and 2 assists in his pro debut for the Mavs.

Meet A Maverick: Stephen Summerhays

When ECHL record breaking Goaltender Josh Robinson was called up to the American Hockey League someone had to fill his spot on the Mavericks roster in addition to many hearts of Mavericks fans. That someone turned out to be Stephen Summerhays.

Meet A Maverick, Ross Johnston

An imposing presence on the ice at 6'5 and 236 lbs., left-winger Ross Johnston is this week's featured Maverick. Johnston is in his first year as a pro hockey player and started the 2015-16 season with Bridgeport of the AHL. Johnny, as his new teammates call him, was called back up to Bridgeport on Monday to see some action with them before returning to Missouri for the Mavericks playoff run.

Meet A Maverick Kellen Jones

A talented first year Maverick who after spending some time in the AHL with Bridgeport, Kellen Jones has returned to Missouri to finish the 2015-16 regular season. The left winger is enjoying his 2nd year as a hockey pro after spending last season with Bakersfield and Oklahoma City in the AHL.

Meet A Maverick Eric Neilson

Throughout the 2015-16 season Missouri Mavericks fans have been learning names of young players who show potential to move up to the AHL and possibly the NHL some day. One newcomer to the team is a veteran who is sharing his experience with his new teammates. 

Right winger Eric Neilson is in his 10th season a pro hockey player and started his career in the ECHL. After 2 seasons Neils as he is called by his teammates went to the AHL.

Meet A Maverick CJ Ludwig

While many Missouri Mavericks fans may debate which Ludwig is better there is no debating that both are talented and have helped the Mavericks to their first place status this season. Defenseman CJ Ludwig, now in his 2nd year as a pro, enjoys playing with his brother Trevor who we featured last week. Luds as he is called by his teammates played last season in the AHL for Oklahoma and Bakersfield.
