 Middle School Cross Country Season A Success

On Wednesday, October 3rd, the local middle schools ran their last cross country meet against Raymore-Peculiar East, Osage Trail, Yeokum, Platte County, South Valley, Raytown, Kearney, Oak Grove, Pioneer Ridge, Raytown Central, and Bingham. 

“No matter what obstacles they faced this season, from injuries to illness, to maybe a disappointing finish here and there, they were always back the next day, clean slate, ready to work hard and enjoy being a part of this team,” Bernard Campbell cross country coach Ron Zimmerman said.

Over the course of the season, runners have improved their times by up to a minute.

“I’m happy and proud of the improvement our runners have made this season,” Pleasant Lea cross country coach Kent Tipton said.

In the boys’ A-team 1.5 mile race, Summit Lakes finished first with with a total of 34 points. Campbell finished fourth with a total of 101 points and Pleasant Lea finished fifth with 111 points.

The girls’ A-team 1.5 mile race was won by Summit Lakes with a total score of 55. Pleasant Lea took second with 72 points and Campbell came in third with 96. Pleasant Lea’s Addison King came in first overall with a time of 9:01.20.

In the boys’ B-team race, Summit Lakes took second with 60 points, Pleasant Lea took third with with 93, and Campbell took fourth with 120.

For the girls’ B-team race, Pleasant Lea came in first with 36 points, Campbell came in second with 73, and Summit Lakes came in seventh with 168.

In the boys’ C-team run, Brett Ciafullo took first with a time of 9:31.5, helping Summit Lakes take first overall with a score of 27. Pleasant Lea was not far behind, coming in third with 87 points. Campbell placed fourth with 109 points.

In the girls’ C-team race, Campbell’s Amanda Binger came in first with a time of 10:41.8, helping her school take first overall with 30 points. Summit Lakes came in second with 56, and Pleasant Lea came in fourth with 89.

“The amount of improvement our team makes over the course of the season impresses me every year,” Tipton said.

The pride of the cross country turn out this season echoes throughout the middle schools.
“We had a theme this year that we chanted after each practice and at our meets.

‘Some give A LITTLE. Some give A LOT. We give EVERYTHING!’

And I think that summarizes our thoughts on how these kids performed,” Zimmerman said.
