What I REID Into It: December 2, 2017

“Paging Dr. Reid and stat. A Dr. Reid is needed to cure someone who is ill, not feeling well and performing poorly.”

If this was describing a single person they would have gone to the Emergency Room, but this is a group of men called the Kansas City Chiefs. The entire 53-man roster on this NFL team thankfully has a large locker room in order to visit with their Dr. Reid to go over what ails them and to discuss any remedies.

That's What I REID Into It for this week.

Big Whiskey’s Partners with Local KC Mavericks Hockey Team

Big Whiskey’s American Restaurant & Bar® signed its newest community partnership with the KC Mavericks, a professional ice hockey team located in Independence, MO. Recently, Big Whiskey’s made their first appearance at the Mavericks’ Kids Game on Tuesday November 14th.

“It was a natural fit. We’re neighbors, we celebrate sports, family, and kids eat free at our restaurant every Tuesday night,” said Missy Creed, Big Whiskey’s Lee’s Summit Marketing Coordinator. Partner and Kansas City native, JD House said, “We’ve been looking for a great community partnership since before opening six months ago so we’re ecstatic to have the opportunity to collaborate with the Mavericks! We’re also very excited to get to know the Orange Army.”

Both the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills meet at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday looking for answers to some very tough questions. Both teams enter the match up from disappointing losses. This shocked some as the Chiefs dropped a road game at then 1-8 NY Giants and the Bills were humiliated 54-24 by the LA Chargers.

Meet A Maverick: Eric Freschi #11

The Kansas City Mavericks have benefited this season by the work of the team's rookies, who are off to a hot start to their careers. Last week we told you about Alex Brooks. This week we spotlight Eric Freschi, who is enjoying his 1st season as a pro hockey player.

Freschi scored his first goal as a Maverick against Wichita on Saturday Nov. 11. The team lost the game 6-2, but Freschi's first professional goal was the talk after the game.

What I REID Into It: November 18, 2017

Just about everyone enjoys having seconds. Whether it's a second trip through a buffet line, a second show of their favorite artist or a second chance at a job interview, having seconds are a good thing. The Kansas City Chiefs certainly enjoyed the first half of the 2017 NFL season by going 6-3 and leading the AFC West Division by 2 games. Now the second half of the season begins with the Chiefs looking for more of what they saw in the 1st half.

Meet A Maverick: Alex Brooks #72

A national champion in college, and now here in Missouri pursuing a professional championship, is Mavericks newcomer Alex Brooks. A right-handed defenseman, Brooks won a NCAA D-III national championship while a senior at Wisconsin Stevens-Point in 2016.

Brooksy, as his new teammates call him, is now in his 2nd year of pro hockey, having played last season with Fayetteville of the Southern Pro Hockey League. Count Mavericks Head Coach John Scott-Dickson as among those glad Brooks is here.

Meet A Maverick: Mike McMurtry #7

A name that Mavericks fans will want to watch for is Forward Mike McMurtry. The newcomer already has more AHL experience than performing on the ECHL level. Mike began his pro career last season with the Texas Stars.

Murch, as his new teammates call him, is 25 years old and ready to return to the AHL level as he continues his career in the Calgary Flames system. Mike's favorite Sports team is the NFL's Detroit Lions. As a youth, attending Lions games was a family tradition. Detroit, Michigan is not far from his hometown in Ontario, Canada.
