Summit Christian Academy (SCA) second grade student and Lee’s Summit native Libby Williams will be representing the St. Joseph Figure Skating Club at the United States Figure Skating Association’s (USFSA) 2013 Southwest States Non-Qualifying Competition in Centennial, Colorado later this month.
The competition runs concurrently with the Southwestern Regional Championships for juvenile level skaters and above and is the highest level competition for a skater at Williams’ level. She started skating at the age of five and currently skates at the pre-preliminary level. Williams practices one to two hours a day, six days a week, including on and off ice training.
“Libby is so excited that her hard work is allowing her the opportunity to compete at this level and is appreciative of her coach, Debbie Cole, and the area rinks that allow her to pursue her dream,” commented Libby’s mom Lee Ann Williams.
“It’s no surprise to me that Libby is an excellent ice skater. In class, she is focused on the task at hand and always gives her best,” said Mrs. Mary Musil, Williams’ second grade teacher at SCA.
Summit Christian Academy (SCA) is an independent, nondenominational Christian school serving over 685 preschool through high school students. SCA ministers to all students with programs for gifted students as well as students who need resource services.
Established in 1989, SCA is located on a 36-acre campus and holds dual accreditation through North Central Association and Association of Christian Schools International.
