Everyone loves a good homecoming. After a
period of time away one returns home to find familiar faces, well known
buildings and looks forward to seeing what's new. In most cases an
individual is welcomed back by a handshake or a hug.
week's homecoming in Philadelphia by Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy
Reid don't expect such a warm reception. After 14 years as Philadelphia
Eagles Head Coach Reid was shown the exit door earlier this year.
Despite what may be a chilly reception on
Thursday night, coach
Reid is looking forward to returning to the city of brotherly love.
Philadelphia was Reid's first head coaching position and the site of
much professional success. During Reid's 14 seasons in Philadelphia he
won 140 games, made 9 playoff appearances, won 6 Division Titles, made 5
NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl. Not only is Reid coming back
there are 14 members of the current KC Chiefs coaching staff that at
one time coached there.
Many homecoming festivities include
honoring alumni or retiring someone's jersey. This week's events will be
no exception. The Eagles plan to induct Donovan McNabb into the team's
hall of fame at halftime. McNabb was Reid's first 1st round draft choice
as a coach back in 1999. Whether there are tears shed or batteries
thrown from the stands there is a game to be played between the Chiefs
I think football fans are in for a treat as two
first year head coaches tangle under the bright lights on national
television. New Eagles coach Chip Kelly wants his team to snap the
football 3 times per minute. Coach Reid wants his defense to create
turnovers or make the opponent go 3 plays and out when on offense. With
Coach Kelly and many of his coaches new to the NFL and the Eagles along
with a seldom seen offense I feel the Chiefs will prevail with a win.
The Chiefs may have a new coaching staff, but Reid and over 66% of his
staff have worked years together. Every one of those years has been
spent in the NFL.
The 2013 Chiefs have started the season playing good football and this Thursday
night will do so again. I predict Coach Andy Reid and his staff will
enjoy their 2013 Homecoming activities but I wouldn't expect a parade
afterwards. That's what I REID Into it this week.
