DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING VETERANS AND WIDOWS PENSION ELIGIBILITY VERIFICATION REPORT IS MARCH 1
February 19, 2010
By Daniel Bell
JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Veterans Commission and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) reminds Missourians that if you are a Veteran with a non-service connected pension or a widow or widower who receives a pension from the VA you must fill out and send in your Eligibility Verification Report (EVR) by March 1, 2010 or your pension will be suspended.
The EVR is sent to Veterans receiving non-service connected pension and surviving spouses receiving death pension. The EVR reports income, assets, and out of pocket medical expenses for the year just ended and projects those items for the current year. The EVR is printed on a yellow card and the completed report needs to be received by the VA before March 1, 2010. If not received by that date, payment is suspended. Reports received after March 1st are handled as reopened claims. Pensioners should not delay submitting the EVRs to prevent suspension and/or lengthy delays in processing.
Unless pensioners receive written notice that it is not required, an EVR needs to be completed and sent to VA, even this year when there has been no COLA (cost of living adjustment) for Social Security.
“Many Veterans, widows, and widowers depend on this pension for daily living,” said Veterans Commission Executive Director Larry D. Kay, “any delays in submitting the EVR can have serious consequences on the quality of life and could lead to hardship until the claim is processed.”
If you are a Veteran, widow, or widower who has not filled out your EVR and need assistance, please contact the Missouri Veterans Commission at 1-866-VET-INFO or go online to http://mvc.dps.mo.gov/STV/Site/location.html for the nearest Veterans Service Officer to you. The Service Officer may also be able to assist you in gaining additional benefits depending on eligibility.
The Missouri Veterans Commission, a state agency, operates seven State Veterans Homes, five State Veterans Cemeteries, and the Veterans Services Program. The Commission is committed to honoring and serving Missouri’s Veterans whose dedication and sacrifices have preserved our nation and its freedoms. For more information about the Missouri Veterans Commission programs, call 573-751-3779 or access the Missouri Veterans Commission webpage at www.mvc.dps.mo.gov.

THERE IS NO CONCERN FOR A WIDOWS WELL BEING AFTER HER HUSBAND HAS GIVEN MORE THEN HALF OF HIS LIFETIME TO THE MILITARY.
THERE IS NO HELP FINANCIALLY, OR EMOTIONALLY, ALL FAMILIES THAT HAVE SERVED A PERIOD OF 20ODD YEARS IN THE MILITARY ONLY KNOWS MILITARY LIFESTYLE. WHO CAN ONE REACH OUT TO? OTHER THEN MILITARY FAMILYS. WE HAVE LIVED AND RAISED OUR CHILDREN IN THAT CIRCLE. I ADVISED MILITRARY FAMILIES TO LIVE ON THE OUT SIDE OF THAT WALL OF BASES. THE TRANSITION OF LEAVING THE MILITARY TO CIVILIAN LIFE TAKES SOME GETTING USED TO. MAKES ONE THINK THERE IS NO ANSWER ON MY ELIGIBILITY OF MY HUSBANDS DISABILITY OR PENSION. HOW DOES A WIDOW RECEIVES HER RIGHTLY EARNED COMPENSATION FOR HER VETERANS 24 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE NATION.? WHAT OFFICE OR AGENT IS RESPONSIBLY FOR ENSURING THAT A WIDOW OF A VETERAN RECEIVES ALL THE ENTITLEMENTS?
