Lee’s Summit VFW Post 5789 plans activities

Nov. 05, 2011

VFW Post 5789 has planned a full day of events to commemorate the Veterans Day holiday Nov. 11.

A brief memorial service is planned for 8 a.m. at the Lee’s Summit Cemetary to honor all American military veterans both living and dead. The public is invited to observe this tribute to our fallen heroes.

There will be an all-day display of military vehicles at Hy-Vee, 301 N.E. Rice Road in Lee’s Summit. Hy-Vee will serve a free breakfast to all military veterans. It’s Hy-Vee’s way of saying “thank you” to veterans.

At 10:30 a.m., the honor guard will conduct a service at John Knox Care Center to honor all
the veterans there.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post will serve a free ham and bean dinner to the public from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Veterans Day at the VFW building, 329 S.E. Douglas Street in downtown Lee’s Summit.

VFW members representing six wars will present a “Vets in the Classroom” program at 1 p.m. for students at Richardson Elementary.
