JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Veterans Commission and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) reminds Missourians that if you are a Veteran with a non-service connected pension or a widow or widower who receives a pension from the VA you must fill out and send in your Eligibility Verification Report (EVR) by March 1, 2010 or your pension will be suspended.
We have more than 300,000 women now serving on land, sea, air and on space missions. This began for women at the beginning of the Revolutionary War 1776 and has continued in every war since.
In my last article I told you that I along with the 5th District Commander Chris Bell would have the distinct pleasure of escorting the 5th district winner of the Voice of Democracy contest, Emily Stebbins to the Department Voice of Democracy banquet in Jefferson City to compete with 13 other district winners.

On Wednesday, November 11, 2009, VFW Post 5789 gathered at the Lee's Suymmit Historic Cemetery Flag Pole for the first Veteran's Day Sunrise Service. VFW Post 5789 Honor Guards paid tribute to all Veterans
"72 sixth graders attended a presentation, regarding WW II through present day, from the local VFW on November 11th. This is the third year the VFW has made presentations" said Kim Hassler, 6th grade social studies teacher at Richardson Elementary.
Jackie Megee is a very driven little girl. She is eleven years old and a student at Greenwood Elementary. In her words, “I am the only 11 year old that owns a business in Greenwood and I am probably the only kid trying to collect 1,000,000 aluminum cans.”
