Teaching the next generation

"72 sixth graders attended a presentation, regarding WW II through present day, from the local VFW  on November 11th.  This is the third year the VFW has made presentations" said Kim Hassler, 6th grade social studies teacher at Richardson Elementary.

Eleven Year Old Entrepreneur Gives Back

Jackie Megee is a very driven little girl.  She is eleven years old and a student at Greenwood Elementary.  In her words, I am the only 11 year old that owns a business in Greenwood and I am probably the only kid trying to collect 1,000,000 aluminum cans.

 On Friday, Sept. 11th, 2009, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office and store in the United States.  It should be every persons' duty to display an American flag on the 8th anniversary of one of our country's worst tragedies. We do this to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms.

Military Order of the Cooties

   The Military Order of the Cooties of the United States is a non-profit Veterans Service Organization. We are known as The Honor Degree of the VFW and our members are comprised of the officers and leadership of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.  Membership in the MOC is recognition of outstanding service to the VFW and its programs.

All About Maisie Seimears Rodenbaugh

I was the second child born to Walter and Martha [James] Seimears on July 15, 1925 in Elk County, Kansas and was named LuCretia Mae.  My parents were farmers and the land was mostly hay meadows and not very many row crops. We raised a lot of cattle, sheep and as the years went by, children.  In March of 1929 my mother passed away at the age of 23.

Women have always lent a helping hand during war time.  Theyve always been the caregivers for the sick and injured soldiers.  There were veterans groups that were formed as early as 1870 and continued until 1900.
