A traveling military photo exhibit “Remember Our Fallen “ was unveiled at local VFW Post 5789, located at 329 SE Douglas on October 14.
The touching exhibit pays tribute to the Missouri military that have lost their lives in the service of their country since September 11, 2001. Large pictures of the 130 fallen men and women tell a story of bravery and self sacrifice.
According to Ken Davis, VFW Post 5789 Adjutant, “Those who are honored have endured multiple deployments”.
The event was a quiet moment in time when the differences of politics stopped and people from all political walks of life came together in grateful thanks for what the honored men and women had done.
Davis arranged for the names of the fallen to be read. Readers included City manager Steve Arbo, Councilmember Kathy Hofmann and Councilmember & Veteran Joe Spallo. Various other dignitaries were also on hand for the unveiling of the exhibit.
The VFW Honor Guard strode to the front of the exhibit. Shortly after taps was played and our beloved Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all. A reception was hosted by the VFW Post 5789 Ladies Auxiliary.
The exhibit was the idea of Bill and Evonne Williams of Omaha, Nebraska. The couple has been involved in many patriotic endeavors in the community. It is their belief that if the names of the fallen are said out loud, they will not be forgotten.
The exhibit will be on display at the Lee's Summit VFW Post until October 20 from 11a.m. until 7 p.m. daily until close. For more information on the exhibit call 815-525-5789.
