The VFW 5th District Ladies Auxiliary

May 11, 2012

By Celia Davis

The 5th District Ladies Auxiliary held their annual convention May 5th at VFW Post 4242 in Raytown.  Chairmen gave reports regarding the programs of the Ladies Auxiliary including homemade bags to be given to the Veterans at the VA hospital which they will present to their loved ones on Mother’s Day.  The Auxiliaries in the district will also collect socks for Father’s Day  to be given to the Veterans as our gift to them on their special day.  We were also happy to report that our Auxiliaries have donated over $5,000 for cancer aid and research just in our district alone.

During the annual convention a memorial service was held for all deceased sisters. This is a very beautiful ceremony to memorialize them.  An election of officers was held and the new District President is Ella Edwards from Independence.  Her term of office will begin after the state convention which will be held in June.

Our next District meeting, under the new leadership, will be held at Post 8100 in Grandview on August 5 at 2pm with a potluck at 1pm.
