VFW Scholarship Winners

May 15, 2015

VFW Post 5789 is pleased to announce the winners of their first annual scholarship competition in each of the three public high schools in Lee’s Summit.

The winners are Jaci Herron of Lee’s Summit High School, Gabrielle Belz of Lee’s Summit West High School and Sarah Welsh of Lee’s Summit North High School.

These graduating seniors will each receive $1000 from the VFW for their higher education. The unique requirement for this particular scholarship program is that the entrants must be the child, sibling, or grandchild of a combat veteran who has served in the armed forces of the United States.

VFW Commander Jim Nail said that this requirement paid honor to the veteran relatives of the students entering the competition.
