Dorothy L. Wining
Dorothy L. Wining, 89 of Lone Jack, Missouri, formerly of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at the Pleasant Hill Health & Rehab Center in Pleasant Hill, Missouri.
Dorothy was born on January 13, 1921 in Kaw City, Oklahoma, daughter of James S. and Genevieve M. (Maple) Auld. She grew up in McPherson County, Kansas and graduated from Canton High School. Shortly after completing her Beauty College Degree, she married John R. Wining on April 23, 1940. They moved to Wichita in 1950 and enjoyed sixty-three years of marriage in glory to God.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean O’Connell and husband, Dan of Wichita and a son, James Wining and wife, Pam of Lone Jack, Missouri; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; a sister, Hatty Gaddis and a son-in-law, Dick Horsch.
During her life, she was active at Woodland Methodist Church, Friends of Cow Town, and Extension Home Unit. She was a constant supporter of her children’s schools and her husband’s various community services. Dorothy could sew, read a book, watch TV and supervise children all at the same time. God truly gifted us with Dorothy and we are at peace knowing she is with our Lord and Savior.
Funeral Services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden. Pastor Robert B. Lowrance of Heaven’s Gate Gospel Church in Lee’s Summit officiating. Graveside services 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the Canton Township Cemetery, located near McPherson, Kansas. The family will received friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2010 at the funeral home.
