Ethel Grace Hays, of Kansas City, MO, passed away March 8, 2013.

Visitation will be Tuesday March 12, 6-8 p.m., with a VFW Mortuary Service at 7 p.m. at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd., KCMO.

Funeral service at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 13. Burial will be at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

Ethel Grace was born May 15, 1921 to Cleveland E. and Laura Ethel Battin. She graduated from Wetmore, KS High School in 1939. She married Byron C. Hays on July 8, 1945. He preceded her in death in 1993.

She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Farnsworth (Gary) and Judy Baker (Bob); a granddaughter, Sheri Ruggles (Max); two grandsons, Brian Baker and Jeremy Baker; two step-grandchildren, Michelle Farnsworth and Chris Farnsworth; three great-grandchildren, Grace and Jake Ruggles and Alex Farnsworth; sister-in-laws Margaret Hays, Lillian Ray, Lucille Lotz (Edward), Norma Altis (Hubert); brother-in-law Chester Hays (Loella); niece Laura Ethel Schafer (Don); nephew, Roger Battin (Connie); and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Battin and Raymond Battin; two brother-in-laws, Webster Hays and Don Campbell; three sister-in-laws, Irene Campbell, Maurine Swanson and Betty Battin.

Ethel was a member of the First Baptist Church, KCMO.

She was active for 65 years in the VFW. She held many offices in the 5th District, was past president of Auxiliary #302, later transferring to #8100. She was captain of the mortuary team and served in Military Order of the Cootie Women's Auxiliary (MOCA) #1. In 1979, she retired from Milgram Food Store #30.
