Jack William Colbern, 83, loving father and devoted husband passed away peacefully on Friday, December 23. 

Jack was born April 3, 1933, in Warrensburg, Missouri, to Harry G. (Bill) Colbern and Burtone Mayes Colbern. After graduating from Warrensburg High School in 1951, Jack attended Central Missouri State University for two years. 

In 1953, Jack proudly joined the Army and served two years including 18 months in Korea. After Jack’s tour of duty, he returned to Warrensburg to finish his Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He then attained a Masters Degree in Education and a Specialist Degree in Elementary School Administration. Jack married the love of his life, Mary Ann (Lock) Colbern, in August 1957. Jack spent his career as a teacher at Westridge and Burke Elementary Schools in the Hickman Mills School District in South Kansas City, Missouri. He served over 20 years as Principal of Truman Elementary School. 

Preceding him in death were his father, Harry G. Colbern and his mother, Burtone Mayes Colbern. He is survived by wife, Mary Ann Colbern; sons, Christopher (Linda), John (Kacy), Brian (Jamie); and grandchildren, Stephen (Mallory), Shanna, John, and Rebecca Colbern. 

Visitation will be held 1-2 p.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 2 p.m., at Our Lady of Presentation Catholic Church, on Tuesday, December 27. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in memory of Jack Colbern to the Heart of America Chapter Alzheimer’s Association, 3846 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, KS 66208; John Knox Village Hospice, 1001 N.W. Chipman Road, Lee’s Summit, Missouri 64081; or Our Lady of the Presentation Church, 130 N.W. Murray Road, Lee’s Summit, Missouri 64081-1558.
