Judge G.L. (Cris) Crystal

Judge G.L. (Cris) Crystal passed away on the 13th of December 2011. Memorial services was held at the John Knox Village Chapel (400 Northwest Murray Road, Lee's Summit MO) on Thursday, December 15th at 11 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.
Cris was born on January 27th, 1930 in Brookfield, MO to Ernest H. Crystal and Easter Clements Crystal. He was an only child. He was raised in Marceline, MO where he graduated from high school in 1947. Cris attended Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University). He studied at the University of Missouri Law School at Columbia, MO, then the University of Kansas City night law school while working as a claims adjuster. He received his Juris Doctorate in 1956.
He practiced law in Windsor, MO before moving to the Western Insurance Company where he was employed as a claims attorney.
Cris also served as Municipal Judge in Lee's Summit for 10 years before being appointed to the 3rd Judicial Circuit Court by Governor Kit Bond in 1976, retiring in 1992 after serving 15 years on the bench.
Judge Crystal is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Reith Crystal and daughters Laurel Ann (Ken) Kopecky of Chevy Chase MD and Dana Lea (Craig) Krueger of Lenexa KS. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the John Knox Village Foundation.
