January 18, 2010
Lois L. (Oakman) Jessup

Lois L. Jessup, age 90, passed away Jan. 18, 2010 at John Knox Care Center in Lee’s Summit. MO.  Funeral services will be at 10:00AM Thursday Jan. 21, 2010 at Hickman Mills Community Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  Burial in Floral Hills East Cemetery in Lee’s Summit, MO.  Visitation will be 6:00 – 7:00PM Wednesday Jan. 20, 2010 at Langsford Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hickman Mills Community Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 5809 E. Red Bridge Road, Kansas City, MO 64134.

Lois L. Oakman was born on May 3, 1919 to Florence M. (Wood) Oakman and Arthur L. Oakman in Boston, MA.  After graduating from North Quincy High School in 1936 in Quincy, MA she worked at John Hancock Life Insurance Co. in Boston.  On a New Year’s Eve Party 1939/1940 she met the love of her life, Willard A. Jessup. She said that it was love at first sight.  She and Willard were married on Jan. 1, 1942 and had 60 years of marriage until Willard died in 2002.  After getting married they moved to East Hartford, CT where Willard had gotten a job at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Engine Co.   During World War II gasoline was very scarce so Lois and Willard became avid motorcyclists and traveled all over New England on their big Indian Bonneville Chief Motorcycle.  On Oct. 19, 1947 their son, Charles A. Jessup was born in High Point, N.C.  Willard eventually got work with Grumman Aircraft Co. so the family moved to Long Island, N.Y.  Lois loved music and was an avid singer.  She sang in church choirs and choral societies for over 50 years.  The family loved to travel and the three traveled all over the United Stated and Canada together.  In 1976 Lois and Willard moved to Kansas City to be closer to their son, Charles, who had settled here.  She was very active member of the Hickman Mills Community Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  She loved her family.  Lois is survived by her son, Charles A. Jessup, of Kansas City, MO.  She will be missed by all who knew her for her quiet presence and her beautiful smile.

Arrangements:  Langsford Funeral Home, 115 SW 3rd Street, Lee’s Summit, MO 64063.
