 Mrs. Diane Louise Sperber, 73, a lifelong resident of Lee’s Summit Missouri and daughter of George & Emaline Walberg, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2009, at Wilshire at Lakewood.  Visitation will be Monday, July 6, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Langsford Funeral Home located at 3rd and Jefferson in Lee’s Summit.  Funeral services will also be performed at Langsford’s on Tuesday, July 7th   at 11:00: am. Memorial contributions may be made to KU Medical Center, Parkinson Clinic for research, 3901 Rainbow Blvd, Kansas City, KS 66160

 

A 1953 graduate of Lee’s Summit High School, Diane attended Southwest Baptist College in Boliver, Missouri.  She later married and raised three sons who survive her, David of Kansas City, Doug of Bentonville AR, and Dwayne of Delafield WI.  Diane was actively involved in the Lee’s Summit School district serving several terms as PTA president and 8 years on the Lee’s Summit school board.

 

Diane was involved in many organizations and causes in her lifetime.  Besides a lifetime of service with the First Baptist Church and the First United Methodist Church both of Lee’s Summit, she is remembered most recently as an advocate for the fight against Parkinson’s disease.  She organized many fund raising events for the research and cure for Parkinson’s and she held several “concert for hope” events.

 

Diane had a passion for singing as exhibited through her involvement in church choir and other musical activities. Her singing career began her singing career at the age of 16 and she performed over 5000 solos at local funerals, weddings and innumerable events.

 

Preceded in death by her parents and sister Barbara Langsford, she is also survived by two sisters, Jo Draper and Georgia Moore; eight grandchildren, Darcie, Jacob, Dwight, Brittney, Savannah, Mary Madalynn, Caleb and Ethan; many extended family members and countless friends and many care givers at Wilshire and other care facilities she resided.
